What I’m Designing // Emily Habeck – An Actress.

    in design

I’m going to try to start sharing what I’ve been designing on a weekly basis. A sort of Design Show and Tell, if you will.

Today, I have a pretty little actress named Emily to tell you about.

Emily Habeck // WordPress Design

Emily is an actress based in Los Angeles. She had a Wix site and blog that was in need of a custom look and some TLD (tender loving design…yeah, corny. But I’ve had two giant coffees already this morning and am a little giddy CAFFEINE).

Emily wanted: purple, a clean design, and to convey that she was a cute romance actress, not a super serious drama gal. She wanted her site to be a blog with lots of links to her reel, music (I’m totally jealous of her singing talent), and resume. She also needed an appealing and easy way to sign up for her email newsletter and a way to display her headshots on the front page.

Along with a clean, feminine design for her, I created a slideshow on her sidebar with some text and headshots, a pretty little email sign up box, and custom social media icons.

Side note – blogging is great for your SEO (search engine optimization). In very scientific terms: more content, newer content makes Google like you more. (Which is why I get a ton of hits about my French press iced coffee every single day. If only I wanted to be an expert in French pressed coffee.)

Also, if you’re wondering, I think that Emily should be a comedy writer if the whole acting thing doesn’t work out, because every single time I check out her site, she has a post up that makes me laugh aloud. (Like Sweet Jesus It’s Happening Again, It’s After Midnight. Freaking Out Some, and Regretful Instances of Winter 2013.)

Sometimes, clients become friends. And this is most definitely one of those times. Emily was an incredible delight and so easy to work with. She trusted me and I had a fantastic first experience of working with an actor on their site. I just adore her and wish her all the success in the world!

  1. Love your idea of highlighting the work you’re doing. From a reader’s perspective, unless I’m also a reader of the blog or website you’re designing for, it’s sometimes hard for me to make a connection with your design choices. But, when you give a little background about the person behind the blog/website, things really do begin to make sense.
