Personal & Life Updates

2014 in Review.

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates 6 Comments

janJanuary
Finally started to feel better, pregnancy-wise. Drove through a terrible snowstorm to Madison, Wisconsin. Gabe had six snow days, sidelining my attempts to finally ramp up my work.

febFebruary
Gabe got glasses and we found out Mike was placed here for his year-long pre-doctoral internship, so we took a mini vacation. Took a break from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

marMarch
Road trip to Asheville & Atlanta – saw some desperately needed signs of spring in the south.

aprApril
Worked like crazy to save up for my maternity leave.  Got insanely sick and had to miss Easter.

mayMay
Started swim lessons with Gabe. Looked like a whale weekly at the YMCA. Attended WordCamp.

juneJune
My eardrum ruptured at a wedding, completing my attempt at having the most ailments possible during pregnancy. Waited to have a baby. Had a baby.

julyJuly
Had a newborn. It was rather all-consuming.

augAugust
Took care of high-needs baby. Celebrated 7 years of marriage. Yellow Springs. Started running again. Did a buy nothing month to compensate for all the post-baby shopping.

septSeptember
Gabe turned 4 and stsrted his second year of preschool. I started back to work and hired a babysitter on a regular basis for the first time. We started to go hiking every weekend, which was one of the best things we did this year.

octoberOctober
I turned 30. Hiked. Ran. Worked. Visited Mike’s parents.

novNovember
Sold stuff on Craigslist and got rid of a bunch more. Hiked. Ran. Worked. Had a foot problem because I’m old.

decDecember
Theo got sick twice. Celebrated Christmas with the most-excited 4-year-old ever. Visited Mike’s parents. Spent New Year’s Eve as a family eating frozen appetizers from Trader Joes and making goals for 2015.

2014 was a pretty good, if not somewhat exhausting year. Theo’s pregnancy was not easy on me and his infanthood hasn’t been, either. (I adore him! So does Gabe! He’s just rather fussy and it turns out you don’t get time to savor your second child as much as you did your first.) The entire year feels like it was absorbed into getting ready for, and taking care of, the newest family member.

The good parts were so good. Gabe and Theo together is the biggest joy of my life, hands down.

Business-wise, I increased my revenue 45% over 2013 and got some of my most awesome clients yet. And that’s WITH a maternity leave, being super pregnant, and having a newborn. I can’t wait to see where 2015 takes me!

Hopefully somewhere with donuts.

Damn, that’s a big year. Wishing you all the best (& maybe a little bit of chill – or at least fewer ailments?!) in 2015! <3

Wow seriously impressive how well you did with work last year!
I can never decide if your experience has made me want a second kid or not want a second kid, lol. But thank you for sharing it all :)
