A-Biking We Will Go.

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates 20 Comments

Last year during this weekend, the weather was perfect and we went hiking for the first time with a wee little baby.

This weekend, the weather was perfect (70s! 80s! sunshine! changing leaves! exclamation!) and we went biking for the first time with a fun little toddler-slash-baby.

Before Gabe, Mike and I loved to go for bike rides. After Gabe, not so much. Mostly because it was fairly impossible to do before he turned one (something about delicate bones? or something?), but partially because I don’t feel comfortable shoving Gabe in my front basket a la Toto.

We (finally) forked out the money for a bike seat (this one) and a helmet (this one) for Gabe.

It was awesome to be out on our bikes again. It was such a wonderful bike ride, it almost felt (cheeseball alert!) spiritual.

I felt so alive, so free, so light on my bike with the sun warming me and my baby boy right next to me.

(Hey, I warned you.)

After the bike ride, we walked to an apple orchard and cider mill to enjoy some apple dumplings, cider, and buy twelve pounds of apples. It was, truly, an autumnal day:

We have been toying between that seat and some other one of similar style that Chris found. Did Gabe find that seat comfortable?

We live near a really nice bike trail, and want to use it! Is Mike trying to be ironic wearing the bike shirt while on bike? ;)

How awesome to live near a bike trail!

I really liked the seat, so did Gabe. I like that it has the little padded tray (?) in the front for him. I couldn’t decide between this and the iBert – but since this is $30 cheaper… :) It seems small for him to fit in till he’s 4…but we shall see!

He has two faces: happy and furrowed brow. We usually get the happy. :)

How fun! Did Gabe like it? It kind of looks like he couldn’t make up his mind in those pictures!

Whenever we take him on walks, he gets really quiet and just takes everything in. It was sort of the same with the bike ride. :)

That bike seat is so cool! I have never seen one like that before! A fall family bike ride and a trip to on orchard sound like Fall bliss!

Isn’t it neat? It’s so much nicer for Gabe to look out instead of at Mike’s back! :)
