November Pumpkin Treats.

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates, Recipes 10 Comments

Pumpkin-flavored goodies get a lot of attention in October. Everyone’s all a-flutter about pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin pancakes and carving pumpkins and such for the month of October. Then, aside from pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, poor little pumpkin is thrown by the wayside, neglected and forgotten in favor of Christmas cookies and peppermint mochas.

Sad Pumpkin

Food is my love language. Both in solitude and with others, I find comfort in food. I have many memories that revolve around food. I love to make food with my sisters. I adore holiday traditions that involve food. I love to make food to share.

Maybe it’s because I’m an October baby, but I just cannot get enough pumpkin goodies in the fall and winter. There is something comforting, familiar, and just so autumnal about the flavor of pumpkin.

So, yes, it is November, but let me share with you a few of my favorite pumpkin treats I’ve been enjoying this month.

Pumpkin Treats

After my cup of coffee (or two) in the morning, I still crave something warm during these chilly mornings, but want to do without extra caffeine. I’ve been fixing myself a no-coffee pumpkin latte or a pumpkin chai many mornings. I typically find myself enjoying my warm beverage with a gooey pumpkin square – I make these several times each fall. While I usually make them with chocolate chips, I most recently made them with peanut butter chips. YUM.

[ P u m p k i n  C h a i ]

Heat milk, chai concentrate and pumpkin on the stove top. Whisk like crazy to make frothy. (Experiment with the ratios to find what you prefer.

[ N o  – C o f f e e  P u m p k i n  L a t t e ]

1/2 cup pumpkin puree
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Heat on the stove until thoroughly heated. I like to use my immersion blender to make it super frothy.  (Also quite tasty after cooled in the fridge.)  Source.

Do you have a favorite comfort food during these chilly months?

I love fall and pumpkin season. We made chocolate chip pumpkin bread last night. It hit the spot this morning for breakfast :)

That picture of Gabe is priceless.

I’m not really a pumpkin person! I don’t dislike it, but I’d rather other things. The peppermint mochas, however…I am powerless over them.

Love the pic of Gabe :) I like pumpkin chocolate chip cookies around Thanksgiving but that’s the only pumpkin-flavoured food I actually eat. My “comfort food” this time of year is white chocolate mochas from Starbucks :) It’s the only time of the year I splurge on Starbucks – and I can’t get enough!

Love your new layout! And I also love this post. I’m a huge fan of anything with pumpkin too. It’s one of my absolute favorite things about Fall. And your mug is awesome. I have been listening to tons of NPR lately, and I keep coming home and telling Aaron what I hear. I can’t get enough!

gabe, with a face like that, I would feed you pumpkin-anything every day of the year!!

as for me, I enjoy pumpkin everything until the end of the year. I’ve just discovered pumpkin oatmeal this fall, thanks to a recipe by maris (http://ingoodtasteblog.net/in_good_taste/2011/09/why-i-write-pumpkin-banana-oatmeal-recipe.html) and I just cannot get enough it! also, I just devoured a container of pumpkin-chocolate chip muffins last week.

When pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks I am the first in line! I love all things pumpkin as well. I have a pumpkin cake that I make (not from scratch because I’m just not that talented) that is delicious. I also made a pumpkin and chicken (sorry, not vegetarian!) chili for the first time this year and it was amazing!

I’m not much of a pumpkin person, but I did recently find pumpkin spice Hershey’s kisses that I have since fallen in love with.

Made the pumpkin gooey bars this weekend – delish! Had to put most of them in the freezer or else my husband would have eaten 90% of them in one sitting. Thanks for the recipe!
