September Update & October Intentions

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates 4 Comments

noho

These leaves should be changing soon!

[September Update]

Finish unpacking // Done and done! I know some people can live with unpacked boxes for years and it doesn’t bother them, but I’ve moved a lot in my life (15 times, at least) and I get itchy when there are still boxes to be unpacked.

Make fall fun list // So many fun things to do this month. Harvest festivals and pumpkin patches and orchards, oh my.

Floss daily // Not daily, but it’s now a habit. And no cavities at the dentist, so that’s wonderful. (I did, however, endure an uncomfortable conversation with the dental hygienist about how I have two boys and didn’t I secretly hope for a girl? I should have just told her my baby girl died so I could end the conversation but it’s soooo awful.)

Find child care // WOOHOO! I found someone and it’s working out beautifully. Life is so much better when I have a few mornings a week to work. Since I’m homeschooling Gabe, I do that during Theo’s 3 hours of naptime instead of work, so I have to get my work in when I’m completely child free. It’s much more effective to work without kids instead of work around them, anyhow.

[October Intentions]

Do all the fall things! // We tend to do one weekend day of boring, cozy home stuff (laundry, meal prep, cleaning up) and one day with fun outings (and Theo naps in the car – life still revolves around his nap, so we can only afford to have one skipped/crappy nap a week!). I want to cram these weekends before snow comes with lots of fun things. (If you’re local, found this fun list of ideas.)

Finish updating my portfolio and publish it. //  I’ve been sloooooowly working on updating my web design portfolio with my latest projects and changing the overall function to make it filterable by type of website (blog, non-profit, small business, etc). I need to finally set aside the time to finish it!

Resume meal planning // I kinda fell off the bandwagon and lots of frozen Trader Joe’s items kinda have been dinner for the past month or two. Moving and all that. Things have settled and I want to get back in action! Chili and cornbread tonight should be a good start.

Go on a date with Mike // One of my big goals this year was to have fun with Mike. Caring for two kids while moving twice and being pregnant and losing a baby has made this year…not so easy to have fun. Hoping to put some more effort into this area.

What’s up with intrusive hygienists? The last appointment we were at, she remarked that my daughter had good teeth and must have gotten them from her father. I just shrugged and said well we are two females that conceived through IVF and that didn’t stop her . . . she said well you must know something about her dad etc…Ugh, NO. We used an anonymous donor. What is wrong with people? I’m sorry you had to experience that at the dentist.

Oh my goooosh, what an appalling conversation! Did you want to be like, “Just. Just stop. Stop now.” haha

I love all the fun stuff you guys have been doing- I live vicariously through your Instagram feed :) Hopefully your childcare can also do a date night or two for you guys.

I’m starting to get a lot of the “don’t you wish for a girl?” “aren’t you going to try for a girl?” conversations/comments. I can only imagine how much worse these conversations are for you. I can definitely see the temptation to put these people in their place… ha.

Hello, thinking of you, and hope you have a festive Fall! Good idea to make an Autumn list now because October goes by so quickly! Even though its stillhot in NC, I am warming to the idea of a Pumpkin Spice Latte…:) Have a great week, Laura
