The One Where Ashley Realizes She's Monica

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates Leave a Comment

I turn on Friends (gotta love the library) and flop on the couch.

Mike comes in: “Hey! You’re watching it without me?!”

.: I love that man*:.

[Never mind the fact that he nudged me a bazillion times to insinuate that Monica Gellar and I are JUST ALIKE. No, not the organizational and gorgeous parts of Monica – the neurotic, competitive, whiny parts of Monica. The questions, the yelling, the rule-following. Yes, we are similar. OKAY? You got a problem with it? The RULES CONTROL THE FUN, people!]

In other news, I have NINETEEN DAYS. 1-9. Nine + Ten. !19! – where was I? Oh yes, I have 19 days of work until I leave this land for Cleveland. I’m super excited for new opportunities – a new city and being less than an hour from my parents, three of my siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I haven’t lived that close to my family in…like 8 years. It’s gonna be FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. [You see, I really love my family. They rock. And there are lots of them.]

This city has been fun – and the longest I’ve ever lived consecutively ANYWHERE (five years!) -but I’m itching to move on. Cleveland sounds like a great place (check out Alexa’s blog if you don’t believe me). And I’m ready for change – even if it’s in a little way, like moving 220 miles. [But it’s near a Whole Foods! Which my friend Eileen tells me is great! So that’s change, too! A new yuppie grocery within a mile of our house!]

ALSO: Guys, you rock. That last post? I needed to get that out there and just express all my doubt, frustrations, and uncertainties. [I’m *somewhat* a worrier.] And hearing your stories and advice was incredibly helpful. [Although, can I just say? I am leetle jealous of Wickedly Scarlett. Okay, ridiculously jealous. I want to clean and make dinner. Boo.] Even those of you who rambled and said, “This probably won’t help you,” like EP, totally and completely helped me. Because, really? It’s so nice to hear that I’m not the only one. So, thanks. Really, the reassurance, personal stories, and advice was appreciated and treasured.

* I also love that we discussed the attractiveness of the Friends. We agreed that Rachel isn’t all that pretty – Monica by far is the most gorgeous. And skinny Chandler isn’t half bad. Mike things Joey is cute, too…
A: This conversation makes me love you even more. You’re the best husband ever.
M: Why? Because I’m gay?

PS: Happy One Year Anniversary to one of my dearest, oldest, and bestest friends – EILEEN! (Oh, and wish Sam a happy anniversary, too!) :)

One year ago. What awesome friends I have:
The beginning of the night.

Eileen’s bartender gave us a lot of wine, okay?

Don’t you see? This is WHY we need to hang out! I am Monica, too! (Although, I think we esablished this a while back.)

When I started watching that show, I so wanted to be a Rachel but after a while I was all, “Oh, who am I kidding? I’m a Monica.” One of my favorite episodes is the one where she wants to prove that she can go to bed with a messy apartment, and then it cuts to her tossing and turning in bed, trying to come up with a way to clean up without anyone knowing she did it. Yeah, that’s totally me.

Okay, long comment. Oh, well. :)

And those wedding photos made me laugh – love the second one! Is someone copping a feel? Watch out!

Wow you’re moving to Cleveland?? That’s great! It’s nice to be close to family. I’m about 90 minutes away and that’s good for now. Whole Foods is amazing, you’re going to love it.

I’d have to go with Monica on the whole rule-following thing, too. And oh, jeez, “skinny Chandler”–what was it, the second season when they realized that the show was a hit, that all the women got kinda scary-skinny? But I always loved the side stories on Friends the best. Like Phoebe and the movies she thought ended happily (but really didn’t).

I’m glad you’re excited about your move! I’ve been to Ohio only once but it seemed like a nice place. Just, um, flatter than Pennsylvania.

A fellow Monica here as well. My favorite Monicaism, along with the “Rules help control the fun” is “If it’s not a right angle, it’s a wrong angle” and when she’s vacuuming the vacuum! ahh!

I even married a Chandler. lol. Though the other night I was watching season nine on dvd, and Cale said he wanted to watch them from start to finish because he never got to see them all in order. I love that he likes the show too, though he wouldn’t admit that to anyone else

You are going to have the best time in Cleveland! I cannot wait to hear about it!

And I’m happy that what we all said helped. It’s nice to know you’re not alone. (:
