Personal & Life Updates

Eh, Sugar Cereal is Better than Retail Therapy, Right?

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates 5 Comments

I’ve had a ridiculous case of the grumpies that I just *cannot* shake for some reason. To be honest, I feel like I am just a constantly terrible person to be around lately. Snark and sarcasm dominate my thoughts and I’ve been terrible at keeping those thoughts from spilling over into conversations and the way I treat people.

I don’t know what is up. I could blame it on the (dark, cold, rainy) weather or that I’ve had a lot on my plate lately. But the truth is, I am just being a crabby crabface and I need to cheer the heck up before the DAY ENTIRELY SET ASIDE FOR THANKS arrives.

In an effort to cultivate a spirit of thankfulness and reverse my dedication to crabbiness – I’m going to share some stuff that is making me happy lately.

Friends DVDs

My in-laws got me the entire Friends series for my birthday and it is one of the best presents I’ve ever gotten ever. Mike and I are slowly working our way through the series and I love being able share it with him. Friends is, hands down, my favorite television show of all time. It’s crazy that they are around my age when the show starts – since I always felt like they were so much older and grown up when I watched the show in high school. Does that mean I’m grown up? Also, Chandler is basically my dad, which makes me happy. And it’s a proud moment seeing my child dance to the Friends theme song. We usually watch an episode or two a night right after Gabe goes to bed, while eating a bowl of…

Sugary Cereal

I prefer a bowl of sugary cereal with soymilk to a bowl of ice cream. It’s certainly not virtuous, but – it’s slightly less unhealthy, so I sometimes eat a BIG bowl. Mmm.

The Hunger Games Trailer

I read The Hunger Games. I LOVED the books. For the first time, I might just go to the midnight showing of a film. THUS: I’ve watched The Hunger Games trailer many times. Chills. Eee! I absolutely cannot wait for March! (And if you haven’t read the books: DO IT! Do it NOW!)

Mmm. Eyeshadow.
Sephora Flip

I’m not really a make up person (ie: I have no idea what I’m doing), but I picked up this little guy for just $7 at Sephora. It is the perfect size to stick in my purse, and it’s great quality – 8 eyeshadows, 8 lip glosses, and two blushes/bronzers. It’s been so much fun to play with, and since it comes in such little quantities, I know the make up won’t expire before I use it.  (And apparently they’ve already discontinued this, but this one is sort of close.)

The Handmaid’s Tale

This novel (along with half a dozen toddler parenting books) is on my nightstand now and it’s a fascinating read. It’s an easy, engaging story – just wish I had long, uninterrupted periods with which to read it. The last time I tried to do that, I found Gabe eating diaper cream. Mom of the Year.

Simple Mom Podcasts

I’ve always been obsessed with a good podcast (This American Life, Talk of the Nation, Car Talk, etc), but lately I’ve listened to every episode of the Simple Mom Podcast I can get my hands on. The latest podcast was about healthy habits and moms – great stuff. I like to think Tsh and I are friends, since our parenting and life philosophies are so similar.

OPI Just a Little Dangerous

Pretty, deep purple nail polish. So gorgeous. (I’ve been painting my nails to hide my creepy nail.) This color is perfect. And is only $10 with a silver crackle color at Sephora.

Wee Little Family.

Oh yeah. And, this, of course.

I LOVE Friends. I am kind of a “late adopter”, but I have the theme song on my phone as a ring tone and I get all giddy when reruns are on TV – clearly, I need the box set.

    Hey there,
No, it’s always retail therapy!! I love the nail polish color – I need to run to the mall and check that out. I’ve been searching for a dark doable color for the holidays. Also, sorry to hear that that little case is out. Would have like to look it over. (I’m not really all that make-uppy either). Friends was excellent!

I recently read the Hunger Games series and am now obsessed. I’m ready for the movie NOW. I’ve watched the trailer over and over and over again and it gives me chills each time. I can’t wait!

And the Handmaid’s Tale is one of my favorite books. It’s an amazing read.

I clicked on your Sephora link, but that one is sold out too. :( Bummer. It looked like such a good product!
