Personal & Life Updates

Five Things.

Filed Under: Personal & Life Updates 14 Comments

It’s not a Friday, but I have five things to talk about. Hello.
Screen Shot 2014-11-12 at 12.31.49 PM

1. I’m closing my Etsy shop and getting rid of everything I have at 50% off. Also, a bunch of cheap craft supplies are listed – come and get ’em! You had no idea I had an Etsy shop? It was a big part of my life a few years ago. Then kids came and I started designing more websites and it gathered dust. Selling products just took all the fun out of sewing, PLUS the amount of work vs. the money I could make just made it cost prohibitive to run. So, goodbye sweet little Etsy shop. I will have fond memories of our time together. XO

2. I scheduled three doctor appointments for this week to take care of everything I’ve been neglecting since I’ve spent the last 2 years at the OBGYN. My new primary care doctor thinks I have a stress fracture in my foot. Blah blah boring medical personal information. I still need to get an x-ray to confirm, but he started talking about not running and getting more supportive shoes and I felt a tiny sense of panic rise in me. Not because I’m some hardcore runner, but because 1) I LOVE MY MOCCASINS (these ones). Don’t make me get some old lady shoes! Nooooo! 2) Okay, no running for a few weeks, but does that also mean no walking and no 30 Day Shred? I like to be active! It counteracts the chocolate chip consumption!  The holidays are coming! I will eat more! And not be allowed to work out! Ahhhhh!

My head is a little chaotic place. This is why exercise is important to me. Hopefully I’m just getting nervous about nothing and my foot has been in pain for 11 months because, um, it likes running.

3. Getting rid of everything I own has been going well. Okay, it’s not even close to everything I own, but whatever. I’ve gotten rid of a lot of stuff and already made $100 on Craigslist selling some things we don’t use! Hooray! But I still have so much. Where does this stuff COME from?

4. I’ve been going to the neighborhood coffee shop several times a week for a few months and these people have started to feel like my coworkers. I’m not sure if that’s sad or awesome. But if they were actual coworkers and I asked them to watch my computer while I used the restroom, that would be kinda awkward. Anyway, I get to hear lots of interesting conversations as I code, type, and design. I send emails to Mike about the daily Coffee Shop Dispatch. Perhaps I should revise how I spend my I’m-paying-for-child-care time.

5. Holidays are coming. WHAT. When did that happen? I feel like I just had a baby last month, which was June. And suddenly people are buying Christmas presents and discussing plans and I’m wondering why it’s not longer warm out. I think babies are like a time warp.

TOTAL time warp. It’s like we’re running through a year in what seems like a month. People are talking about Christmas and I think “how cute! I’m up for a few days of carols and snow!” Because of course it can’t be December. I just gave birth! In April!

I love random posts like this! And I think finding coworkers at the coffee shop and sending Mike emails about them is awesome.

I have some unsolicited advice re: your foot. Rule out plantar fasciitis. My doctor thought I had a stress fracture that just showed up strangely on xray (atypically), when it was really plantar fasciitis. I could have been working with physio in the weeks she told me to take off of running, but instead I just rested to heal the “stress fracture”. Once I started running again and the pain returned, I got a true diagnosis.

Ooh, thanks! It’s near the top of my foot (under the toes), not the heel, which is where I thought plantar fasciitis was? But I’ll ask about it!

Ooooh any tips on selling things on Craigslist? I’m trying to get rid of all (most) of my things too and I thought about selling the big ticket items on CL but then maybe doing a “yard sale” of sorts inside my apartment since I don’t actually have a yard…

I only sell stuff that is worth more than $10 (otherwise, not worth the time of coordinating a sale!). I’ve found that having a chatty description instead of a boring, short one gets more inquiries and from better (normal, will actually show up) buyers. I require cash, pick up. Oh, and good photos can also set you apart! Renewing as often as you can helps.

I’d be scared to have strangers in my apartment, but I love the idea of a yard sale!

I follow another blog (jolynne shane) and she has been blogging a lot about her stress fracture experience, including good but fashionable shoes and running alternates. Might be helpful!

I’m seriously in denial that the holidays are coming so soon. I just don’t understand it, sweet mercy.

This year has felt like a giant time warp! We had snow flurries (which, i know, other parts of the country already have snow) but it just felt weird to drive to work in that. I think it’s because I’m just now finally starting to come out of my fog, a little bit, so it can’t possibly be fall/winter.

I hope the foot situation resolves itself quickly for you. I’m on the DL right now (thank you back & hips) and not working out is making me craaazzzzyyy.

I love and still use my coffee sleeve from your Etsy shop all the time!

As I have learned just recently the value of good shoes! I’ve been dealing with plantar fasciitis for the past few months and the cortisone shots are something I could do without for the rest of eternity. OUCH! I spent the summer wearing my TOMS and that is certainly what did the damage. My podiatrist said that you just need shoes with a little bit of a heel to help support your feet. So no more flats for me on most days, and inserts into those that I still want to wear sometimes. I hope that you can get some resolution for the pain you are having.
