Help Me Pick Out My New Glasses.

I never wear glasses. They look awful on me and I don’t see well in them.

BUT, I just got a new prescription (my left eye is deteriorating at the rate of an 80-year-old) and decided to get my glasses online. After poking around at a few sites, I stumbled upon Warby Parker’s Home Try Ons. You get to pick out five pairs of glasses and try them on for FREE. Then when I buy them, it’s only $95 for lenses, shipping, everything.

All five pairs:

And since I am unable of making decisions without consulting the internet, I took three photos of each pair – front, side, and with my bangs up. (The awkward head angles are due to me trying to avoid the glare – the actual glasses with be anti-glare.) (Also, please excuse my bangs not being straight. It’s Saturday morning laziness.)

My only requirements for glasses:

– I will use them for several years, so anything that will look outdated in two years is no good.
– My bangs might not be forever, so it’s important that they look okay with or without.

So, here they are. At the end, I’ll give you a prize for this incredible show of narcissism.

#1 – These are sort of tortoise-y.

#2 – The sides are actually blue, which you can’t really see here. Darn Photo Booth.

#3 – The most petite glasses.

#4 – Most like my current pair. I’m afraid they might be a little wide…?

#5 – I had to try on a pair of giant nerd glasses. I just had to.

So, weigh in!

And as a thank you, THIS: Gabe also tried on a pair.

Pair #1 is my favorite. I’ll say that I don’t love #2 & think #5 will go out of style soon; I think #3 & #4 are cute, but I still like the first pair the best. :)

I liked #3 and #4, with 3 being my favorite. I spent probably a hour at the store trying on glasses myself and so I think the darker ones are going to pair better with not only your hair/complexion, but also with clothing.

I love the idea behind this store, might have to use them down the road because I am incapable of making glasses decisions, I actually just recycled my old pair and got new lenses this time because I couldn’t decide on a new pair.

I love little nerd boy! SO adorable! I just acquired my first pair of glasses that are not brown, black or tortoise. They’re red with purple sides! I only wear them at home (I’m so near-sighted that I can’t see well in glasses to drive, etc., has to be the contacts), but it is a treat to have some actually stylish glasses, even just around the house. Good luck! I think you look cute in them all, but the small ones (#3) makes your cheeks stand out and that’s my favorite.

    Three: hands down.

You, like me, have a narrow face. I think Three is a great fit.

BTW, my last two glasses have been from the children’s department of lenses. Most of the options in the children’s department were too wide for my face, too.

I was about to say the exact same: “Three: hands down!” They look the best of the five, and I think they will survive a few years in terms of their style.

I think 3 are my favorite, but 3,4,5 are all cute. My guess is 5 will go out of style soonish but they’re so fun :) I really need to get to eye doctor for a new prescription myself. Ugh. At least that means cute new glasses!

    I vote for 1 or 3 (like 3 best).

    I like 2 & 5 least.

4 are nice, but seem too dark and yes, a bit too wide for your petite face.

I voted “none”, because all of them make the top of your face look wide, which makes your cute little pointed chin vanish. There may not be much option out there with the current styles, though. If I HAVE to pick, it’s 4, but that may simply be a function of a slightly different angle on the photos…

Okay, I think I need to just write a blog post explaining how I feel about Warby Parker taking over the faces of all of my favorite bloggers.

I do like pair #3, but do the frames sit too tightly on top of your ear? It looks like your ear is a bit “smooshed”.

Maybe I’m slightly biased against WP because none of the pairs I tried flattered my face (and I tried on 10 pairs in all)…But I want to introduce you to Coastal.com. They also have very affordable frames (my first pair was free), they have a 365 day return policy if you aren’t happy with the glasses, and they are constantly running sales for great deals (Best one lately: two for $89, free shipping & standard lenses). Like WP, they also donate a pair to those in need for every pair that you purchase. Just something to consider if you aren’t totally in love with any of these glasses!

I also have a very narrow face, and most of those seem a little wide for you (as they did for me). I have 2 pairs of the Finn from Warby Parker and really like them. For bigger frames, the Colton or Clyde might work better, too. WP is great about letting you do multiple home try-ons if needed before choosing. :)

I hate selecting them, too. I need a pair and have for three years! I am a sleep in contacts kind of person. Anyway, I thank you for your narcissism and hope they sponsor your posts… I never heard of this company and come January when our cafeteria plan is full and ready for medical expenses to refund, I will use this company! As for preferences, I strongly prefe the tortoise. I dislike 2 and 5. The others all look normal to slightly hipster, but not too trendy for two years to go by in them. Does Gabe leave them be when you wear them?

I need new glasses. I normally only wear contacts, and for bedtime I have glasses with a 10+ year old prescription. I want to start wearing them though (plus to prep for Lasik). I’m definitely going to do the at home try on. Why don’t more companies do this? It’s brilliant!

If it’s any comfort, your eyes will probably get better as you get older. My optometrist told me, when I was round 35, that my eyes were at their worst and would probably improve. He was right. At 60 now I don’t really NEED glasses, even to drive, but I do just because I see a bit better, and I want to see everything as clearly as possible, and I like my glasses. Even my sunglasses are prescription, with bifocals so I can keep them on in the stores while shopping. So, have fun with the glasses, and don’t worry about your eyesight.
